The Rashash asks Rabbi Gershon to say slichot near the box
I heard from the Maggid Misharim Rabbi Leib Mladizen, that once Rabbi Shalom from the Western land sentenced Ta’anit, because it did not rain in Jerusalem (the Kabbalist Rabbi Shalom Sharabi – Rashash who was the head of the Yeshiva of the Kabbalists in Jerusalem in the years TF – 1767).
Rabbi Shalom Sharabi was a great and important tzaddik, and commanded that everyone gather in one synagogue to pray to pray together.
The Rashash sent to call Rabbi Gershon of Kitover the brother-in-law of the holy Baal Shem Tov, so that he could pray in front of the ark.
The preachers in Jerusalem used to say something from the Gemara or the Midrash or verses as their form and meaning, that is, in their exact language and order, and if someone who ascended a messenger before the ark, and was a subordinate of the exact language, it was a disgrace.
Rabbi Gershon of Kitovar prepared himself to demand, and repeated all night several times, on the exact language of things so that he would not err, and say the things as they were, and therefore, he did not sleep all night.
In the morning watch, his throat snorted, and he said to his son Rabbi Leib:
And each of them prayed in the place where he was accustomed to pray, and Rabbi Shalom Sharabi prayed in his beit midrash in his place, and another person descended before the ark.
And while singing in prayer, Rabbi Shalom Sharabi heard that Rabbi Gershon’s voice returned, and therefore, whispered to him immediately after the prayer, and commanded him to go and pray at the pillar.
And Rabbi Gershon went to stand before the pillar, and prayed aloud the repetition of the eighteenth prayer, and began to say slichot.
After the opening of the slichot, Rabbi Gershon got out of the box, and no longer wanted to continue saying the slichot.
And his son Rabbi Leib asked him, why did he do that? And he answered him: When I began the prayer, I felt that it was common in his mouth, and I knew – that my prayer would be accepted.
And I felt that if I say the Slichot it will soon rain, And I feared rudeness, So I did not pray near the ark, because I know, that after my prayer it rained for two or three consecutive days after that, and there was.
Rabbi Gershon Makitov would have feared that the audience would know that because of his blessed prayer the rains had fallen, and he was careful, and also for the rains to fall indirectly, only that he would not reach rudeness …

To what degrees did the holy Baal Shem Tov reach – by smoking the pipe?
I heard from the rabbi of our community, the late Rabbi Gedaliah, that Rabbi Yechiel, Av Beit Din of the Kavla community, sent a learned and wise messenger, to wonder about the jar of the holy Baal Shem Tov.

The apostle asked Rabbi Gershon: Are you the holy Baal Shem Tov?
Rabbi Gershon answered him: Hi! Hi! Am I the rabbi? I wish I had the next world, just what the holy Baal Shem Tov achieves when he smokes one pipe (lolka).
