When unvaccinated people lose their job and AMS money – economy

by time news

Labor Minister Martin Kocher was ready to talk on Monday evening about the new corona rules in the job, home office and AMS funds. What’s coming.

The balance of unemployment figures in December is more positive than expected. Fewer people were registered as unemployed than before the pandemic began. At the end of December the unemployment rate was 8.1 percent. In absolute numbers, 402,378 people were unemployed at the end of December or were taking part in AMS training. That is 5,494 fewer than in December 2019 and even 118,541 fewer than in December 2020.

Specifically, 336,276 people are currently registered as unemployed, 66,102 people are in training. In the course of the year, a total of 613,010 people left unemployment and took up employment. Economically, despite lockdown and corona, things went better than expected – but is the next lockdown coming now? If the health situation does not allow otherwise, but that would have to be the last resort, said Labor Minister Martin Kocher on Monday in the ORF “ZiB 2”.

Do you have to be more generous with the quarantine because so many Austrians are infected at the same time because of Omikron ?, wanted to know moderator Armin Wolf. The Minister of Labor did not want to commit to this. It must be clear that there is safety in the workplace so that it is not easy to become infected, says Kocher, and it is the experts’ turn when it comes to the rules. And why is there no compulsory home office? Kocher did not rule out this as a “last resort” either, in Germany the home office quota was hardly higher than in Austria, despite the obligation.

“Not what the Minister of Labor wants”

A tough 2G regulation would remain at the workplace or in certain professions, i.e. either vaccinated or recovered. That, too, could be discussed, said Kocher, but one must also bear in mind that this would automatically mean that all unvaccinated persons would lose not only their jobs, but also unemployment benefits and social security in one fell swoop. If so, then a special regulation would have to be created, it said. Immediately there could not be a general 2G obligation.

As far as the measures at the workplace are concerned, the labor minister was cautious: it is going, and this will be regulated in cooperation with the health ministry, about medically sensible measures to protect against infection and not about “what the labor minister wants”.

Apart from Corona, there is still new unemployment benefit waiting in 2022, which should be presented soon. This could “not go far below 55 percent,” said Kocher, but that depends on the overall package. Kocher’s assessment: The majority will be better off in terms of unemployment benefits after the reform, but he cannot rule out that some people will also be worse off.
