When will Azerbaijan become an active supplier of green energy to Europe?

The project to transfer green energy from Azerbaijan to Europe will enter an active phase of implementation from next year.

The Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan said this Parviz Shahbazov at the forum “Strengthening energy security using the effectiveness of innovative technologies”, held as part of the meeting of energy ministers of the Belt and Road countries in China, Day.Az reports with reference to Trend.

“The preliminary report of the feasibility study of the Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor project will be presented within the framework of COP29, and the project will enter the active implementation phase from 2025. In addition, a feasibility study of the Azerbaijan green energy corridor has begun –Turkey-Europe” with a capacity of 1 GW, which is being implemented within the framework of the Green Energy Zone Concept,” the minister said.

Shahbazov said that within the framework of COP29, an “Intergovernmental Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of development and transfer of green energy between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan” will be signed.

Let us recall that on December 17, 2022, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary signed a strategic partnership agreement, which provides for the construction of an energy bridge from the Caucasus region to Europe. As part of the agreement reached, the construction of a Black Sea Energy undersea electric cable with a capacity of 1,000 MW and a length of 1,195 kilometers is expected. The cable will be designed to supply green electricity produced in Azerbaijan and Georgia via the Black Sea to Romania for onward transport to Hungary and the rest of Europe.
