The Ministry of National Education has just published the school calendar for the year 2022-2023, which therefore concerns 12.5 million students. So how many bridges or extended weekends? What are the good or bad surprises to expect for families?

Here’s what to remember:

Students will return to class on Thursday September 1, 2022 and will not stop until Saturday July 8, 36 weeks later. On the program, only one “bridge” this year: that of Ascension Thursday, May 18. On the other hand, there will be three long weekends, with Mondays May 1 and 8, which will mainly benefit zone A, as well as Whit Monday, June 6, declared a “day without school”.

Thus, the best time slot to take advantage of a long weekend without taking too many days off will be the Ascension. By asking Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16 or Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19, it will then be possible to afford five days of rest.

For the winter and spring holidays, zone A will be the first to benefit from it, from February 4 to 19 and from April 8 to 23. It will also be the area with the shortest class period after Christmas, with five weeks of classes. But these same students, from the academies in particular of Bordeaux, Grenoble or Lyon, will have to whip eleven weeks between the spring holidays and those of summer.

Finally, zone C, that of the academies of Ile-de-France, Montpellier and Toulouse, will be the last to go on vacation, for the second consecutive year. The aim is to postpone the massive arrival of Parisians in the Alps next winter: accommodation is already full due to the holding of the Alpine Skiing World Championships in February.
