Timon and WeMakePrice, which have stepped in to resolve the ‘unsettled sales payment situation’, have started refunding customers, but the refunds to consumers are still woefully inadequate. ‘Payment settlement’ for the 60,000 or so small business owners who have entered the platform is not even mentioned.

There is no disagreement with the policy that consumers who purchased products or services should be given priority for refunds as they are ‘good victims’.

However, while consumers are not suffering damages that could shake their livelihoods, small businesses claim that they are at a crossroads of life and death, facing the risk of bankruptcy as payment settlements are repeatedly delayed.

According to an investigation by the Financial Supervisory Service, the unsettled amount of Timon and WeMakePrice amounts to 170 billion won.

The problem is the tenants who are constantly delaying payment. It is estimated that more than 90% of the tenants in Timon and WeMakePrice are small business owners. The number is estimated to be around 60,000.

Small business owners are expressing their desperation, saying, “This is a matter of livelihood.”

A small business owner selling products on Timon raised the question in a famous seller community, “Consumers and sellers are already leaving, so where is (Timon) going to get the money to settle the accounts?”

Another seller said, “I asked the merchandise planner (MD) and he said that they will process (settle) sequentially, but he doesn’t know when that will happen,” adding, “I’m getting tired of waiting without any plan in sight.”
