Dorna has offered us a late Three Wise Men gift. We had been waiting for it for a long time, and today they have finally released the video that shows the backroom of Pedro Acosta’s debut in MotoGPa seven-minute film that captures some of the #31’s best moments during his first test with the GASGAS RC16 in Valencia, the same bike he will ride in 2024.

Although Marc Márquez seems to be getting a lot of the attention after his move to Gresini Racing, The truth is that Acosta has a lot to say in his change of category. The Murcian has won two of the last three world titles he has fought for, and now jumps to MotoGP with the backing of the Pierer Group and under the promise that his bike will be identical to the official KTMs of Brad Binder and Jack Miller, enjoying in addition to a factory treatment inside the GASGAS team box, a team operated by Tech 3.

The video starts with Pedro Acosta with a sleepy face and a hoarse voice, surprisingly relaxed for someone who is about to get on one of the fastest motorcycles on the planet. “I slept better than expected,” He has a deep voice inside the box, just before exchanging a few words with her manager, Albert Valera, about how pretty GASGAS is dressed in red.

“Pretty, huh?“says his representative, to which Pedro responds: “A lot, and the black jumpsuit he’s wearing looks handsome. Better than the orange one”says the two-time world champion, who confesses “feel a little weird” with the red GASGAS jumpsuit after so many years proudly wearing the KTM orange.

In the video we can also see what is going on inside the GASGAS Factory Team box after Acosta’s first run with the RC16; the now number #31 recognizes that “It has been difficult to see the dashboard” between curve and curve, and states that “can’t say anything bad about the bike. I activated the height device and the bike did like this (hand gesture sinking), and then I said ‘I think this was not the right button'”he admits with a laugh.

His adaptation to the controls of the RC16 went smoothly, and the GASGAS technicians did not have to make too many changes to his configuration, according to Acosta’s words: “The position on the bike is fine, everything is fine. It’s more about understanding when I should press each button, where the fucking buttons are.. “Sometimes I’m on the straight and I have to look at the handlebars two or three times.”

Accustomed to the docility of his Kalex Moto2, Pedro Acosta recognizes that he now has more work to do on the straights when it comes to controlling the wheelie and configuring the bike to take advantage of the height device and lowering the rear axle: You can’t rest on the straight. You go like this (waves his arms), until you get into fifth gear, you continue playing with the motorcycle. I expected the bike to be much faster. “Let’s see, it’s fucking fast, everyone talks about its power, but in the end what you feel is the acceleration, not the top speed.”

He also had time to compare it with his bike from last year, highlighting the size of the RC16 compared to the Kalex in the intermediate class: “As the bike is narrower than the Moto2, you can use a little more force with your legs, so as not to use your arms as much. Everything you need to do on the straight before braking is the mess of it all. Because if you at least you would stand straight… But the thing is that I come out of the last curve and enter the wheelie, that if I get going, that if this and that, I reach the end of the straight and your time has passed. But it’s cool because it’s racing, you can tell that the bike is made for this.”
