Tesla founder Elon Musk is the richest man in the world. Forbes Magazine publishes for the 36th time the annual global billionaires ranking. The economic crisis stemming from a number of reasons, including the corona virus, inflation and the war in Ukraine, have proved that even the richest rich are not invulnerable.
A general summary of the global billionaires ranking for 2022 shows 2,668 billionaires, 87 less than last year. All together they are worth about $ 12.7 trillion, which is $ 400 billion less than the previous year. Forbes has found over 1,000 billionaires who have become richer than they were in 2021. Another interesting statistic is 236 billionaires who came to the list for the first time, including two from our little Israel.
On a closer look, it can be seen that the 25 billionaires at the top of Forbes’ list added about $ 340 billion to their total capital in 2022, and their value amounts to more than $ 2.3 trillion. The top ten on the list are worth $ 1.3 trillion – up 16% from last year.
As mentioned, Elon Musk, is the richest man in the world in 2022 with a capital value of $ 219 billion. In second place is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, with a fortune of $ 171 billion. Brenner Arno in third place Bernard Arno with 159, in fourth place Bill Gates with 129 and in fifth place Warren Buffett with 118.
Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta (Facebook), which last year was fifth on the list last year, dropped to 15th place this year after Meta shares lost more than 30% since the beginning of 2022.
Record: 36 Israelis in Forbes’ prestigious ranking
The list of the prestigious Forbes contains 36 Israeli billionaires, a new record. This year, too, they are led by Miriam Adelson (50), who inherited the fortune of her husband, the Jewish-American billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who died in early 2021. It should be noted that Adelson’s fortune has shrunk by about $ 10.7 billion in the past year.
In second place in the Israeli segment is businessman Eyal Ofer (117), who jumped almost 40% to $ 5.4 billion. Shortly after him came his brother, Idan Ofer (188), with a value of 10.5, an increase of $ 4.4 billion in the last year.
Roman Abramovich, an Israeli citizen who suffered heavy losses following the war in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed on him by Britain, lost $ 7.6 billion last year and dropped from 142nd on the list to 350th place, with an estimated fortune of $ 6.9 billion.
