Last summer, several famous faces died of cancer. Actress Olivia Newton-John lost a 30-year battle with breast cancer. VUB Honorary Rector Caroline Pauwels died of stomach and esophagus cancer, and renowned scientist Jean-Jacques Cassiman was also unable to win the battle against lung cancer. This makes the disease more visible again, but how far is science today in understanding and treating it?
