First, let’s look at the rating. Here are the top ten, according to RAEX: Moscow State University, MIPT, MEPhI, St. Petersburg State University, Higher School of Economics, Moscow State Technical University. Bauman, MGIMO, Tomsk Polytechnic, St. Peter the Great, RANEPA. But be aware: the boundaries between universities are gradually blurring. In the humanitarian, technical directions appear, and in the technical – humanitarian. Expand your search area. Let’s say Baumanka trains not only engineers, but also linguists, sociologists, economists, forensic experts and even landscape designers. MEPhI has economics, international relations and even medicine. And RSUH offers, along with museology and history, applied mathematics and computer science. The Timiryazev Academy trains not only agronomists, but also specialists in tourism, advertising and PR.

How many points do you need to get on the exam to enter a strong university? 80 plus. In leading universities, such as MGIMO, HSE, you need to get at least 60-70 points on the exam in basic subjects, otherwise your documents will not even be accepted. And the real competition will be between those who have 85-90 points in their assets.

And what about technical? In Baumanka, the threshold is 45 points. This also applies to the Russian language and mathematics with physics and computer science. At Phystech, Russian – at least 70 points. Everything else – mathematics, chemistry, physics, computer science, biology – 85. And remember: the minimum threshold for the paid department is always lower than for the budget.

Most universities require three USEs from applicants. But there are programs where not 3 exams are required, but 4 or 5. What are these programs? For example, “Big Data and International Relations Modeling”. MGIMO will ask for the Unified State Exam in foreign language, history, geography and Russian. Four Unified State Exams must be brought to HSE for those who will apply to “State and Municipal Administration”, “Sociology”, “Business Informatics”. At Moscow State University, in “Applied Mathematics and Informatics”, “Biology”, “Soil Science” one must pass five exams, including the one conducted by the university itself. If you want to go to a prestigious university for a good specialty, take four Unified State Exams. Prepare for additional challenges if you go to graphics, design, journalism, architecture and some other areas. All faculties of Moscow State University have their own additional exams. Conducts its own foreign language exam for some MGIMO applicants. Usually you need to score at least 60 points.
