It only took 3 months for Apple to introduce a new version of the MacBook Pro. The latter, officially presented at WWDC in June 2022, is accompanied in particular by a new M2 chip. Additional performance is announced, as well as better energy management of the device.
The main novelty of the MacBook Pro M2 is in its name: the M2 chip. Apple announces a performance gain of almost 18% in multitasking compared to its previous processor, the classic M1 chip. The firm also indicates that the M2 chip consumes only a quarter of the energy currently required for the most recent laptop PCs with a latest generation processor.
The new MacBook Pro M2 is only available with one screen size: 13.3 inches. The latter still has a Retina panel, unlike the MacBook Pro M1 Max unveiled last March, which has a Liquid Retina XDR screen. The new MacBook Pro M2 therefore seems to be positioned below the version boosted with the M1 Max processor.
The new MacBook Pro M2 is announced with nearly 20 hours of battery life, which is higher than its previous version, but below that of the MacBook Pro M1 Max. The new MacBook Pro M2, however, has two new features compared to its M1 Max version: the return of the TouchBar, and a new charger capable of recharging up to two devices at the same time.
The new MacBook Pro M2 is only available in two versions depending on the desired storage: 256 GB and 512 GB. The new MacBook Air M2 is an improved version of the firm’s most famous computer. As its name suggests, this device is equipped with the new M2 chip in order to have improved performance. Apple also emphasized the energy efficiency of its new chip, which would also be revised and improved compared to the last generation of MacBook Air.
The new MacBook Air M2 is notably equipped with a MagSafe charging port. Users will be able to recharge their device more efficiently, thanks to a magnetic cable that is easy to connect or detach, even in the event of an accident.
