To reach the semi-finals, the home team beat Sassuolo 3-1 in the round of 16 and Milan 2-1 in the quarter-finals. On the other hand, the Florence team beat Parma in the round of 16 and Bologna in the quarterfinals, with both games ending in draws and being decided on penalties.
In the first leg of the semi-final, at the Artemio Franchi stadium, Rolando Mandragora scored the only goal of the game. This way, Fiorentina is close to reaching the final against Juventus, who beat Lazio in the other semi-final. If this happens, the Viola will reach their second consecutive Italian Cup decision, after losing the 2023 title to Internazionale.
For the Italian Championship, the teams are still fighting for a place in European competitions. Atalanta are currently in sixth place with 54 points, just one less than fifth-placed Roma. If they beat the capital club, they will have a place in the next UEFA Champions League.
Other side
Meanwhile, Fiorentina is in ninth place with 47 points. The team is five points behind seventh-placed Lazio, who would currently have a place in the next Conference League.
Interestingly, Fiorentina and Atalanta are one of the few Italian teams still alive in European competitions. Viola are in the semi-finals of the Conference League, in which they will face Club Brugge. La Dea defeated Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and faces Olympique de Marseille in the semi-final.
For the match, coach Gian Piero Gasperini will have right-back Emil Holm and defenders Giorgio Scalvini and Rafael Tolói, all injured, as casualties. On Fiorentina’s side, coach Vincenzo Italiano will have no absences.
