A fate that also befell Matthias Opdenhövel. The presenter was not mentioned once in the program. He had hosted “Schlag den Raab” for five years before being replaced by Steven Gätjen in 2011. His successor was also nowhere to be seen when his former colleague returned to TV.

Matthias Opdenhövel has recently been caught in the crossfire in the competition between RTL and ProSieben. For years, Elton hosted the former Raab show “Schlag den Star”. But a few months ago, ProSieben decided that this era should end. After Elton had increasingly worked for the competition, the Munich-based private broadcaster pulled the plug and parted ways with Raab’s long-time companion – and replaced him with Matthias Opdenhövel.

It has not been officially confirmed whether there are internal bans within the station that prevent ProSieben stars from appearing on RTL and whether the same rules apply vice versa. Media expert Jo Groebel told t-online that such contractual clauses are not necessary: ”Anyone who knows the industry knows about the informal rules – with or without a contract.” The 73-year-old is therefore not surprised that numerous ProSieben faces avoided Raab’s return: “In the end, Saturday was a long-running commercial for the new shows with Raab. Of course, it’s clear that in a context like that you don’t send your own figureheads to advertise for the rival station,” the 73-year-old told t-online. “It was quite simply a massive marketing issue, so I think that’s understandable,” he continued.

When asked by t-online, ProSieben did not want to comment on the boxing match. “It is a basic principle of ProSieben communication that we do not talk about others and their programs,” explains deputy station manager Christoph Körfer. Recently it has become clear again and again that ProSieben is increasingly distancing itself from its former star Stefan Raab.

According to Hannes Hiller, who has been station manager for almost a year, this is a very conscious decision: “Raab is outstanding ProSieben history. A monument. But our future looks different,” he recently told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”. He has high hopes for the duo Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf. “The inspiration and crazy ideas that Joko and Klaas and their production company, Florida, keep providing is unique for me,” said the media manager.
