Accounts to which such a blue code is added are classified as “verified account”. Usually such blue codes are given to celebrities like movie actors, music stars etc.
Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, said that the process is being completely updated.
However, Musk did not elaborate on what changes would be introduced.
Technology news site Platformer has speculated that the blue “tick” icon may be replaced as part of Twitter’s Twitter Blue initiative.
Currently, the optional Twitter Blue feature requires users to pay a monthly subscription of $4.99.
The Twitter Blue feature was introduced in June last year.
