SEARCH ENGINE – The government recently published a list of 242 municipalities affected by the retreat of the coastline and which will therefore have to adapt as a priority to the rising waters.

It is a decree that has gone almost unnoticed. Published in the Official Journal on Monday July 31, in the heart of summer, it lists more than 200 municipalities on the coast of France, as well as around thirty in the overseas departments and regions (DROM). Among them are famous seaside resorts such as Quiberon (Morbihan), La Baule-Escoublac (Loire-Atlantique), Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), Collioure (Pyrénées-Orientales) or Lège-Cap-Ferret (Gironde), very frequented by tourists during this summer period. However, according to this recent text, these cities are among the most threatened by coastal erosion and rising waters.

They will therefore have to adapt as a priority to this phenomenon, a consequence of global warming. Therefore, any new construction will be prohibited in areas exposed to the advance of the sea within thirty years, except for public services and some economic activities that must be close to the coast.
