Which fleece sweater is hip now?

by time news

Et was a time when people who wore functional jackets, Birkenstock sandals and fleece pullovers every day could easily be trusted to secretly want to lead a completely different life. Anyone who looked like that might have driven the old Volvo to Scandinavia in the summer, to the wooden hut by the lake. Or toured through Canada in a camper with a tent on the roof. The possibility that this type of dropout would not return at some point was always to be expected.

Today, when you buy a condominium, you can tie yourself to a place for decades and still be able to wear outdoor clothing in a credible way. The look has gone mainstream, between jeans and sneakers and down vests. First the hiking boots and lumberjack shirts, then the functional jackets and now, in this mild autumn, the fleece sweater.

You’ll come across it again and again, especially one model: Patagonia’s Classic Retro-X. Unclear whether it is the original model. In any case, it is the It model of the moment, compared to all the other pullovers that look similar but never better, from Fila, from Hessnatur, there are even fleece pullovers like this for children, from Ernsting’s Family to Liewood.

According to this Patagonia principle, the pullovers are initially fluffy, with a pocket made of almost technical-looking material emblazoned on the chest. You could easily store a carabiner in there, or at least a handful of nuts, which brings you straight to the point, Gorpcore.

That’s what the overriding outdoor fashion trend is called: Gorp, which in the United States means trail mix that is nutritious and eaten quickly when it comes to the three-thousander. Core is a newfangled addition that’s being put behind everything and marking a trend as such, including this one – mountain gear for the city.

That’s why there is no Swiss army knife in the breast pocket, but mostly just a mobile phone. It’s not going towards the summit, but mostly just around the corner for a cappuccino, on the couch, maybe even in the office.

A life between indoor reality and outdoor dreams, far away and always accessible, or, to quote Markus Söder, who recently said at the CSU party conference about Bavaria that it was “high-tech and home”: stuck in fleece with a breast pocket the contradictions of our time. And maybe that’s why he’s everywhere right now.
