Many parties are running in the state elections in Saxony on September 1st. From today, the Wahl-O-Mat can help you make a voting decision in advance.

A total of 19 parties are running with their state lists in the 2024 Saxon state parliament election. You can use the Wahl-O-Mat to find out which of these parties best represents your views. The free tool asks for your opinion on various topics and compares it with the parties’ positions.

t-online is a media partner of the Wahl-O-Mat of the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) and the Saxon State Agency for Civic Education.

The Wahl-O-Mat is a question and answer tool from the Federal Agency for Civic Education. Based on 38 theses, you can express your agreement or disagreement by clicking on “agree”, “disagree”, “neutral” or “skip thesis”. After answering all the questions, your answers are compared with the positions of the participating parties. This gives you a picture of which of the approved parties are closest to your own interests.

Since not all topics are equally important for every user, you can weight the theses individually or change your own positions. As a result, you can see directly how the agreement with the parties has changed. You can either select all parties for the evaluation or make a selection.

The party comparison shows you at a glance which parties agree on each thesis and where there are differences. You can read the parties’ positions and reasons for all the theses. If you want to know more, you will find links to short academic profiles of all the parties.

The Saxon state parliament normally has 120 members, plus overhang and compensatory mandates. Since the last state election in 2019, Saxony has been governed by a so-called “Kenya coalition” (black-green-red) made up of the CDU, the Greens and the SPD.

The Wahl-O-Mat theses are developed before each election by a team of young and first-time voters, political scientists, statisticians and educators. They are based on the parties’ manifestos and election manifestos as well as their election statements. The developed theses are made available to the parties in advance, who can then answer them and specify their position.

The Wahl-O-Mat was first launched for the 2002 federal election. Since 2003, it has also been available for state elections and elections to the European Parliament. Since then, it has been used more than 130 million times. The Federal Agency for Civic Education points out that the Wahl-O-Mat is only intended to provide information and does not constitute a voting recommendation in any way.
