EXCLUSIVE RANKING – Le Figaro compared the price increases applied over one year by French gas and electricity players. The differences between providers are immense.

Did you choose the wrong energy supplier? Mega Energy, Wekiwi, Total, ENI, Happ-e, Vattenfall… The newcomers to the electricity and gas market had everything to seduce a few months ago, with far lower prices than the duo EDF-Engie. Since the opening to competition in 2007, approximately 25% of French people had been persuaded by one of these new players, effectively abandoning the regulated tariffs. The return to earth is brutal: inflationary tensions have caused the cost of energy to soar. The war in Ukraine did not help matters. And some pass on the increases quite brutally.

We sought to find out which suppliers protect their customers the least well in this tense context. We have therefore compiled unpublished data provided by our partner Watissime*, an online price comparator and energy broker.

For three different typical households, we measured the evolution of the monthly bill, between May 2021 and April 2022. The increases range from 23% to more than 94%…
