While she is awake at night, Rima bakes steamed cakes and a never-before-seen sweet – no one in Lithuania does that

As the founder of Pupa bakery remembers, she became fascinated with baked cakes many years ago. At that time, the show “The White Cat’s Site” was shown on television. One day, Rima’s eye was caught by the advertised oven and the image of the manager baking baked cakes.

It was enough to try once and the recipe became one of the most popular, inspiring even to start a business. When dad, sister, friends had enough of them, it was time for bigger changes. “I didn’t really dare, but my sister encouraged me to open it,” said the woman, talking about the bakery that was opened six years ago.

Until then, she took care of her disabled 33-year-old daughter. “I put my sleepless nights to work here, so now I’m baking steamed cakes from four in the evening to four in the morning,” she said.

“It’s just that you can’t eat baked cakes when they’ve gone stale, they should only be eaten fresh.” I bake at night, you buy during the day – the next day they are no longer tasty,” assured the resident of Alytus district, who bakes delicacies.

And when does Rima sleep? To this question, the woman answers: “You know, mothers who raise disabled children know everything: both standing up to sleep and lying down anywhere.”

In addition, it does not take long to walk to the workplace – Rima herself lives in the same tree with her husband and daughter. She laughs at the fact that at night there is a knock on the door, when the family wants to taste something sweet, and she herself wants sugar.

But the bakery wasn’t always here. Until six years ago, the man was spinning in the garage, so it was a real challenge to free up space. However, the husband, an engineer, supported his wife’s idea and renovated the room with his own hands and adapted it for new activities.

The interviewee herself once studied engineering, and during her studies, the students called her “pupa”. This is how the name of the bakery “Pupa” came about.

In the former garage, now a bakery, not only production takes place, but also trade. When customers stop by, they can pick up their orders almost directly from their shoulder.

“I don’t advertise because that would be all,” the woman laughs, adding that she wouldn’t have time to work in the kitchen anymore. Only as much as ordered is produced. On the counter – baked eclairs with cream, pistachio cream or blueberries; branches; Napoleon cake.

In addition, the bakery also produces sweets that have never been seen before. Imagine: smaller eclairs tied with ribbon on and around a Napoleon cake.

So, you eat one cake and still have another. “I wanted something special,” she assures.

Although it seems like an innovation that has not been seen anywhere, the recipe is traditional. In the past, there was no Internet, so the recipe was taken from magazines. The most popular and current eclairs are simple – with cream filling. They travel to Vilnius, Kaunas, Alytus and other cities.

Not only the holiday organizers, but also offices and companies like such delicacies.

What is the largest order? The woman openly says that the possibilities are unlimited, even though one person works as well – she puts all her shoulders into action and runs.

“I can share the most interesting order. I was going to a venue and baking hot cakes for a big wedding. It was a very nice order, I would always like this,” Rima recalled nostalgically.

Just think, at a wedding you get a freshly baked flaky eclair. The feast included only her eclairs, decorated with freshly picked berries.

However, you also have to refuse orders if they say that they will pick up the sweets on Saturday and eat them only on Monday – such delicacies must only be eaten fresh.
