A balloon exploded during a New Year’s celebration at a Chinese shopping mall.
According to local media such as the Southern News Network, an accident occurred when a pile of balloons exploded at a shopping mall in Henan Province, China, around 8 PM (local time) on the 31st of last month.
An explosion occurred in the shopping mall lobby as people rushed to catch the balloon. As flames spewed out like a bomb exploding, the scene instantly turned into chaos.
Video of the accident is spreading through Chinese portals and Chinese social media.
Fortunately, there were no casualties. Police and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire at the scene.
Authorities assumed that hydrogen gas contained in the balloon was the cause of the accident.
Hydrogen can explode with just static electricity or a small spark, so helium is usually added to balloons.
However, since hydrogen is cheaper than helium, there are still many cases where hydrogen is injected and sold.
