While warming up, I felt that something had to happen / Day

It has already been reported that Apinis became the vice-champion of the Paris Paralympic Games in the discus throwing competition in the F-52 medical group on Sunday.

“During the warm-up, I felt that there had to be something, but sport is sport. Physically, I’m well prepared, it also showed in my results. I already wanted that 21 meters to improve my Paralympic record. For now, I have silver and we don’t know what and what will happen next, but I’m proud,” Apinis admitted.

Apin managed to throw the discus 20.62 meters in his fourth attempt. He threw the discus 20.21 and 19.49 meters in the first two attempts, 20.38 meters in the fifth, but the third and sixth throws were not counted. The para-athlete himself assessed that he managed to show good results.

“The athlete and the coach usually say that it should have been even better. It seems that coach Andris also got along technically [Smočs] said it was a perfect shot, exactly what he expected and it was done. It was done intensively in training. This year, for the first time in four years, I held two proper training camps, which once again shows that athletes need camps. If there are training camps, then the results also grow,” the para-athlete explained.

On the other hand, the first place with a new world record – 27.06 meters – was won by the representative of Italy, Rigivan Ganeshamorthy, whose suitability for this medical group is debatable.

“This is not correct in this case, because he does not correspond to this class of medicine. We will wait, but I believe that this situation is not correct and undermines the spirit of sportsmanship,” said Apinis.

This is already the seventh Olympic Games for Apin. So far, four gold, two silver and three bronze medals have been won in discus and shot put. Apinis won third place in this discipline three years ago in Tokyo.

51-year-old Apinis is the most titled Latvian Paralympian of all time. He also held the Paralympic discus record in the F-52 group at exactly 21 meters, achieved 12 years ago at the Paralympic Games in London.

The Paris Paralympic Games will take place until September 8, with Latvians competing in athletics, paralympic dressage, cycling, swimming and shooting.

22 sports are represented in the Paralympic Games, in which about 4,400 athletes compete.
