/ The White House confirmed on Monday that the United States is working to respond “appropriately” to the drone attack on a base in Jordan that killed three American soldiers, after President Joe Biden accused Iran-backed factions of being behind the attack.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in an interview with CNN that President Biden “will respond” to Sunday’s attack “in an appropriate manner,” adding, “But we do not seek war with Iran. We do not seek a broader conflict in the Middle East.”
Yesterday, Sunday, the US Army announced the killing of three of its soldiers and the wounding of about 25 others in a drone attack targeting a base housing US forces in Jordan.
American media reported that the targeted site was “Tower 22”, a small military site in Jordan, near the country’s border with Syria.
In previous statements, White House spokesman John Kirby said that in some cases Iran “actively facilitates” missile and drone attacks by Tehran-backed groups on US military bases in Iraq and Syria.
He added that US President Joe Biden directed the Department of Defense to prepare for more of these attacks and respond appropriately.
