The United States still does not believe that full-scale hostilities between Israel and the Shiite Hezbollah movement are inevitable, despite the sharp escalation of the situation on the border between the Jewish state and Lebanon.

As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, this was stated at a regular briefing for journalists by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

“We do not believe that a full-scale war is inevitable. We do not believe that. And we believe that it can still be avoided,” the US presidential spokeswoman said.

On the evening of July 27, the Israeli army reported another massive shelling of the north of the country from Lebanese territory. One of the rockets exploded on a football pitch in the village of Majdal Shams, killing 12 children and injuring about 30 more. The Israeli authorities blamed Lebanon and Hezbollah for the incident, promising a tough response. The Shiite movement denies any involvement in the incident.
