Mettupalayam: On the Ooty road, the newly installed speed bumps are not visible because they are not painted white. Speeding vehicles, especially two-wheelers, are often involved in accidents.

Mettupalayam – Ooty Road is a national highway.

More than 1000 tourist vehicles and government buses ply this route daily.

In Kallar area, wild animals are killed and injured by being hit by vehicles while crossing the road. Passengers are also getting seriously injured.

As a result, the Mettupalayam Forest Department requested the National Highways Department officials to set up speed bumps on the Ooty Road as per the court order.

Following this, the National Highways Administration has set up speed bumps at six places on the Ooty Road, from the first bridge to the Kondai Needle bend where the mountain road starts.

At each speed bump, six obstacles are set up, little by little. But there are no speed bumps on the road.

Due to this, two-wheeler accidents often occur in places where there is a speed limit. Many of them fall down and get injured.

Therefore, white paint should be applied to announce the presence of speed bumps on the road.

The Highways Department has left paint on only a few nominal obstacles and ignored the rest. Due to this, the accident has become a serial story.

Repairam!

Muralikumar, Assistant Executive Engineer, National Highways Department, said that speed bumps have been set up at six places on Ooty Road. At three places, white paint has been applied. Due to the breakdown of the paint beating machine, it is not possible to continue beating. Notice boards will be put up for speed limit, he said.
