Yangon: A World Health Organization (WHO) activist has been shot dead in Myanmar. Mio Minh Hutt, a driver at the WHO, was killed. The incident took place in Maulamine township in Mon State. The World Health Organization (WHO) said in a statement that Mio Minh Hut was killed Wednesday night while riding his bike home after work. The circumstances of the murder are not clear.

Since the military coup in February 2021, there have been deadly clashes in Myanmar. According to a local monitoring group, about 2,000 civilians were killed in the brutal crackdown on dissent. More than 30 people were killed in a massacre on Christmas Eve last December. Two members of the international aid group Save the Children were killed in the incident. Their bodies were found on a highway in the eastern state of Kayah.
