The figures employed are Oss (social and health workers) and Asa (socio-welfare auxiliaries), with the task of taking care of the hygiene of all parts of the patient’s body, of helping him to bathe (even in bed), of dressing him, raising him and putting him back down for the night. The service can be carried out on alternate days, or only once a week: the frequency and times are agreed with the family according to the needs of the person to follow.

Meals and medicines

If necessary, the operators provide the preparation and administration of meals and to monitor the intake of medicines. Also on request, they also guarantee the cleaning of the accommodation and the washing of linen. This type of home care is guaranteed not only to bedridden or lonely elderly people who have difficulties in daily activities, but also to minors and adults with disabilities. Activation of the service does not depend only on economic and health conditions and on the presence of a caregiver or a family support network. The service, in fact, is always started after the assessment of a real need for help, to favor the dignified stay of the person in their own home by delaying as much as possible a possible hospitalization in residential structures. It is a form of aid that has no health relevance and for this reason it does not fall within the essential levels of assistance covered by public health. a right that largely depends on the resources available to the municipalities.
