The WHO’s declaration of emergency has no specific impact on countries. Rather, it is intended to alert authorities around the world to prepare for possible outbreaks. The European Health Authority ECDC is recommending that European states issue travel advice for people traveling to or returning from areas affected by the outbreak. For people who have close contact with people who may or certainly have imported an Mpox infection from Africa, the risk of infection is moderate.

The RKI says it expects cases to occur in Germany. A limited outbreak is also quite possible again, but a sharp increase in the number of cases like in 2022 is not currently expected.

In addition, compared to the corona pandemic, the number of Mpox cases is significantly lower and the transmission rate of the virus is lower. It is therefore considered unlikely that the Mpox virus will trigger a global pandemic. However, the RKI wants to continue to monitor the situation closely.
