Neyyatinkara: The death of a 6th standard student in the hospital after drinking acid mixed with water misting it for cold drink is a mystery. Police negligence complicates the case while conflicting arguments confuse the incident.

It is not known who gave the drink to the boy who said he drank the drink given to him by a senior student in uniform. While the relatives say that the drink was exchanged at school, the school authorities maintain that it happened after returning from school. Apart from registering a case after this incident, the Kaliyikawila police did not conduct any serious investigation or collect evidence from the child.

Ashwin (11), son of Sunil and Sophia of Nullikadu Metukummal, Kaliyikavila, Athamkot, died on Monday evening at a private hospital in Neyyatinkara. The cause of death was internal burns and kidney failure. Ashwin is a 6th standard student of Mayakrishna Swamy Vidyalaya, Atamkot. On the 24th of last month at noon, Ashwin gave a statement to the Kaliyikavila police that he drank cola given to him by a boy in uniform at school. After this, he was treated for abdominal pain in a nearby hospital and a hospital in Marthanda. Ashwin was admitted to a private hospital in Neyyattinkara on 27th. During the examination, it was found that the mouth and esophagus were burnt. During this time, the functioning of the kidneys was also impaired. Ashwin died on Monday evening while undergoing dialysis.

During the examination at the Neyyatinkara hospital, it was found that what Ashwin thought was a cold drink, it was actually acid. After this, the family filed a complaint with the Kaliyikawila police. The boy told the police that a boy in uniform gave him a bottle to drink saying it was cola and when he drank one cheek he felt the difference in taste and threw the bottle away. But the boy also testified that he did not recognize the person who gave him the bottle. After the death of Ashwin, on Tuesday morning, under the leadership of Marthandam circle inspector Senthilkumar, Kaliyikavila police prepared an inquest. After this, the body was shifted to Asharipallam Medical College Hospital in Nagercoil for post-mortem. Ashwin’s only sister is Ashvika, who studies in the fourth standard in the same school.

Relatives will not accept the dead body; ‘Action should be taken against the school’

Neyyatinkara: The relatives of sixth grader Ashwin have assured that they will not accept the body until the police find the accused who killed him. The relatives also demanded that a case of murder should be filed against the school authorities responsible for Ashwin’s death. It was at school that a boy in uniform gave Ashwin a cold drink to drink. The health problem occurred after drinking this.

Disguised as a soft drink, it was an acid-laced liquid. Ashwin’s cousin Ivan alleged that the school management is responsible in this regard. The school is not accredited. So action should be taken against the school authorities. Ashwin’s dead body will not be accepted without fulfilling these demands, he said.

Ashwin drank soft drink not in school – school management

Neyyatinkara: In the incident in which Ashwin, a 6th grader, died, the management said that the cold drink was not consumed in the school. School Trust President S. Sasikumar and Legal Advisor R. Savarkar also said that there is a mystery in the allegations leveled against the school in this regard. On the day of the incident, Ashwin had gone home in the school van. The family had called the school that Ashwin could not come on the next school day due to fever. Later on October 1, Ashwin’s family came forward with a complaint. The school is under the Athamkot Mayakrishna Swamy Temple Trust. S. Sasikumar and R. Savarkar demanded that there is a mystery in the allegations leveled against the school and it should be investigated.

Family members can’t believe it

Parassala: Relatives and local residents could not bear the loss of Ashwin, who died while undergoing treatment after drinking chemical solution. After the news spread that the body would be brought home on Tuesday, many people came to Ashwin’s house in the afternoon to meet him. Following the incident, Ashwin’s father Sunil, who had come from abroad, was in a private hospital in Neyyattinkara. Sunil has been in a state of exhaustion since hearing the news of Ashwin’s death on Monday evening. The relatives who reach home are not even able to console Sunil.

Who gave the soft drink?

Kokitthura: The police are troubled by the fact that they cannot identify who gave Sheetala drink at Ashwin’s school. Ashwin had said that he would know if he saw the boy who gave him the drink, but could not take evidence due to his poor health. The school’s surveillance cameras were not working that day, so other evidence could not be collected. Ashwin said that he had never seen a child who was given a cold drink before. Police suspect that someone may have come from outside wearing school uniform. In this situation, the police started making efforts to strengthen the investigation and not limit it to school children only.
