was the first international guest of Sanremo 2024 announced: this evening, during the third evening of the Festival, Russell Crowe will arrive at the Ariston. The New Zealand actor, Oscar winner in 2001 as best leading actor for Gladiator (Ridley Scott’s film in which he played Massimo Decimo Meridio), will participate in the event as a musician and singer. In fact, before becoming an actor, Crowe took his first artistic steps in music: My journey towards cinema began by playing, touring and publishing records – he said -. This job led me to musical theater (Grease, Rocky Horror Show, Blood Brothers) and, miraculously, a director saw me perform in Blood Brothers and asked me to audition.

His return to Italy, after the series of concerts he held in 2023 (including one dedicated to the flood victims of Emilia Romagna at the Teatro Comunale Nouveau in Bologna), precedes the one with The Gentlemen Barbers, the band with which he will be on tour in summer. The stops: Rome (23 June, Archaeological Park of the Colosseum, Temple of Venus), Pompeii (9 July, Amphitheater of the excavations), Ascoli Piceno (11 July), Piacenza (13 July, Palazzo Farnese), Varese (14 July, Gardens Estensi) and Bologna (16 July, Teatro Comunale Nouveau).

We revisit numerous successes in the history of music – explained Crowe – bringing iconic songs back to life, through new arrangements, to give the public a truly extraordinary experience. His relationships with the other members of Russell Crowe & The Gentlemen Barbers date back 30 years. David Kelly (drums) and Stewart Kirwan (trumpet) were members of 30 Odd Foot of Grunts (the actor’s first band), as well as playing with Crowe in The Ordinary Fear of God, which included Stuart Hunter (piano) and Chris Kamzelas (guitar). He then joined the lineup, which also features the voices of Stacey Fletcher, Susie Ahern and Britney Theriot, James Haselwood (bass).
