Before becoming Army Chief, he served for less than six months as Chief of General Staff, where he oversaw, among other things, military operations and intelligence, Bangladesh’s role in UN peacekeeping missions. and overseeing the budget, in a career spanning three and a half decades, he also worked closely with Hasina, serving as Principal Staff Officer in the Armed Forces Division under the Prime Minister’s Office.
The army website said that General Waqar-ul-Zaman has also been associated with the modernization of the army, he has called upon the army personnel during protests to ensure the safety of people’s lives, property and important state installations.
