Change of government: Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu called Prime Minister Yair Lapid this evening (Thursday) and informed him of his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin that took place earlier today. This is another sting for Lapid, who did not speak with Putin himself throughout his tenure.

The current update on the conversation with Putin also comes after Netanyahu himself refused to attend the monthly update meetings with Lapid and Naftali Bennett since they became Prime Ministers – this despite the fact that these update meetings are required by law. The only time Lapid gave Netanyahu a security briefing was last August, during the “Dawn” operation.

When he left the meeting, Netanyahu said that “I received a detailed update, I listened carefully and I gave some advice from my experience, not only about what to do next, but also about various areas, and I think that this advice can be very useful for Israel’s security.”

A few weeks later, Netanyahu agreed to attend another briefing with Lapid – when the two discussed the nuclear agreement with Iran and the political and security activities that Israel is leading in order to influence the issue. “In matters of national security, there is no opposition or coalition in Israel,” said Lapid. Israel is strong and will act together to protect its security interests against those who try to harm us.”
