Azamgarh: BJP has made Vijay Bahadur Pathak its candidate for Legislative Council from Azamgarh. Vijay Bahadur Pathak is a Brahmin leader from Azamgarh, who will become MLC for the second time. He has also been the General Secretary of BJP. By making Pathak the MLC candidate, BJP has tried to woo the Brahmins.
Vijay Bahadur Pathak is a resident of Maniyar village of Phulpur assembly constituency. In 1984, Shri Durgaji was elected President of the Student Union of PG College Chandeshwar. In 1985, he was elected BJYM District Minister. When BJP came to power in 1991, he was given many important responsibilities. Vijay Bahadur has a strong hold in the organization. Member of State Working Committee of UP BJP since 1994. Has held various positions including President of Azamgarh Olympic Association.

Out of 13 Legislative Council seats, BJP is expected to get 10 seats, while SP can win three seats. To win a seat, a total of 29 votes of MLAs will be required. BJP, including its allies, has 286 MLAs in the state assembly, while SP has 110 MLAs. The elections will be held on March 21.
