  • The Colombian president had requested the formal resignation of his ministers on April 25

Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, published in a statement the names of the officials that make up his new ministerial cabinet.

The president’s announcement occurs after he himself requested the formal resignation of his ministers and raised the possibility of “installing an emergency government.”

One of the triggers for this political decision was the criticism and lack of support for the reforms proposed by Petro, especially the change in the country’s health system.

These are the new ministers:

– Ricardo Bonilla, Minister of Finance

– Jhenifer Mojica, Minister of Agriculture

– Luis Fernando Velasco, Minister of the Interior

– Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, Minister of Health

– Yesenia Olaya, Minister of Science

– Mauricio Lizcano, Minister of Information and Communication Technologies

– William Camargo, Minister of Transport

– Carlos Ramón González, director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic

The origin of ministerial changes

Gustavo Petro posted a Twitter thread on April 25 in which he explained the political changes in his government and the end of the coalition of different parties.

The political coalition agreed as a majority has ended today by decision of some party presidents. Some of whom threaten the majority of their own bench,” the president wrote on Twitter.

This is in reference to the fact that the Conservative, Liberal and U parties ratified that they do not support the health reform that was approved in its first discussion by the Seventh Commission of the House of Representatives.

The reform was presented on February 13 and aims to bring health care to all corners and strengthen primary care and disease prevention, but it has been strongly criticized because it seeks to change the entire system while ignoring its achievements.
