Edwin Arrieta Arteaga was a Colombian plastic surgeon who was assassinated, in an apparent case of jealousy, by Daniel Sancho Bronchalo –a 29-year-old young man and son of the well-known Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho–. The victim’s body was found dismembered in some garbage bags in Thailand.
Arrieta was a 44-year-old plastic surgeon and, according to his social networks, he had a successful career dedicated to operating on women in Colombia and Santiago de Chile.
“The family of Dr. Edwin Arrieta Arteaga is allowed to inform the media and the community in general that we refrain from providing any type of statement on the facts surrounding the unfortunate event of our family member. The foregoing so as not to hinder the investigation and diplomatic protocol that is being carried out by the official organizations of the states involved in these events,” said the specialist’s family in a statement.

According to reports, the doctor landed on the island of Koh Phangan in Thailand on July 31 in the company of – presumed to be – his sentimental partner, Daniel Sancho, with whom, according to international media, he would have had a secret relationship for a year. He would stay there until August 3.
However, the same day that the reservation at the hotel ended, Sancho approached the police to report Arrieta’s disappearance. The uniformed men saw some scratches and wounds on Sancho’s body that seemed suspicious. That same day, garbage collectors came across human remains inside a garbage bag.
The security cameras managed to capture the moment in which Sancho previously bought knives, saws and garbage bags. He had, according to these tests, planned the crime. After an interrogation, Sancho admitted to being the doctor’s murderer and claimed that he did it out of jealousy and fear of being deceived.

“Peace in the grave of Edwin Miguel Arrieta Arteaga. His unexpected departure from him and without the opportunity to say goodbye to him leaves an impossible-to-fill void in his family, whom he loved so much and for whom he worked tirelessly. His impeccable professionalism and personal brand left a legacy of prestige and respect,” said Deiby Palomino, a friend of the victim.
The doctor Arrieta Arteaga was a native of Lorica, but lived in the El Recreo neighborhood of Montería (Córdoba). The professional was a member of the Colombian Society of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (SCCP).
He was a surgeon from the Metropolitan University of Barranquilla and had a degree in plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery from the University of Buenos Aires. He liked to practice polo in an amateur way.
“Lorica is shaken by the painful episode surrounding the death of surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, to his family an immense and considerate hug; May God provide strength for such an irreparable loss. Peace in his grave, ”the Lorica mayor’s office wrote on her Facebook account.
