At this time, an exciting nostalgic event is taking place in the B commercial center in Ashdod, where street theater actors brought back to life the unforgettable characters from the B district’s glorious past, except that there was one character that did not need an actor to play it – Gingi the tailor. This is because Ginji the tailor arrived at the place himself together with his wife Paula.

Jinji, who is less known by his real name – Moshe, sat next to the sewing machine and began to “take measurements” from the actors who cooperated with him just like before. The couple was excited to return to the same place where they worked for many years and see the nostalgic photos and meet some of their old customers, when the audience that came to participate in the event was also excited and approached to talk to them.

Watch the exciting documentary:

Other characters that have come back to life through actors are Jojo the book, Herman Cibutro the optician, Esther Cinema, the legendary Cafe San Remo, the milk cart and the candy seller of old.

This event is held within the framework of the social enterprise ‘Merhav Yazirah Ashdod’ which operates under the charge of the Municipal Society for Leisure Culture and the Unit for Old Neighborhoods and Social Capital and it will be held until 8:00 PM in the evening.

In addition to the businesses that came to life, there will also be a “Nostalgia in Songs” show, with everyone’s favorite hits from the sixties and seventies, with the band “Acropolis” – an Israeli-foreign rock cover band with a diverse repertoire of the best Israeli and foreign rock hits, which appeals to a wide variety of young audiences and a graduate. The show is rhythmic and happy, bouncy and uplifting (members of the band: Ilan Almakais – vocalist, Roni Isaac – acoustic guitar, Ofer Degani – electric guitar, Elad Yarkoni – bass guitar, Chen Motzafi – drums).

As a tribute to the legendary Esther cinema, there will be an outdoor screening of a documentary film about Ashdod from 1961, produced by the Israel Film Service, and directed by Helga Cranston (later Keller), one of the founders of Israeli cinema. The film describes the arrival of the new immigrants to the desolate and sandy area, their entry into the new housing estates and the course of their lives, which has developed since their arrival.

In collaboration with the municipal library, the children will be able to participate in the story-time show ‘The Farmer’s Daughter and the Lion’, and another attraction for the younger generation: “Games of the past” – a nostalgic games complex for children, with games that were an integral part of the veterans’ childhood. The complex will allow parents and children to play together, and of course there will be a lot of excitement.

“B is a house” – now until 8:00 p.m., 2nd district commercial center, Ashdod. The entrance is free.
