JMM announced former minister and Manoharpur MLA Joba Manjhi as its candidate from Singhbhum. Seraikela is also an assembly constituency of Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat. Seraikela assembly constituency is the home constituency of CM Champai Soren. In such a situation, it has become a question of prestige for Champai Soren to ensure the victory of JMM candidate from Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat. Whereas former Chief Minister Madhu Koda is sweating to send his wife Geeta Koda to Parliament again.
Six assembly seats of Singhbhum are with India Alliance.
The tribal dominated Singhbhum seat has six assembly seats. These are Chaibasa, Seraikela, Jagarnathpur, Manoharpur, Mazgaon and Chakrarpur. Of these, five assembly seats are held by JMM and one by Congress. CM Champai Soren himself is an MLA from Seraikela. JMM candidate Joba Manjhi is the fifth time MLA from Manoharpur. Whereas Congress had won from Jagarnathpur seat. Minister Deepak Biruwa had won from Chaibasa for the third consecutive time in 2019. Mazgaon and Chakradharpur seats are also in the possession of JMM. In this way, BJP is likely to face a tough challenge in this area.

Geeta comes from the Koda Ho tribe, while Joba Manjhi comes from the Santhali tribe. Despite the wave being in favor of BJP in 2019, Congress’s Geeta Koda won the election with a record margin of 69 percent votes. Geeta Koda had defeated the then BJP state president Laxman Gilua.

In the year 2014, he did not get success in the Lok Sabha elections for the first time. Geeta Koda joined Congress in the year 2018. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Madhu Koda won the election from Singhbhum seat as an independent candidate.
Joba Manjhi faces challenge to her husband to handle the inheritance
Devendra Manjhi, husband of JMM candidate and MLA Joba Manjhi, was a veteran tribal leader of Kolhan region. He was murdered on 14 October 1994. After the murder of her husband, Joba Manjhi came into active politics and first won the 1995 assembly elections. After this, she continued winning from Manoharpur constituency in 2000, 2005, 2014 and 2019. Joba Manjhi became a minister for the first time in the Rabri government in Bihar in 1998. After formation of Jharkhand, she also became a minister in Babulal Marandi’s government. In 2009, she joined JMM and was also a minister in the Hemant Soren government.
Singhbhum seat prestige question for CM Champai Soren
Congress decided to leave Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat for JMM. Now Singhbhum seat has become a question of prestige for CM Champai Soren. This is his home constituency and the decision to make Joba Manjhi the candidate is believed to be Champai Soren’s. Champai Soren and Joba Manjhi both come from the Santhal tribal community. That’s why Champai Soren is working day and night to bring this seat into JMM’s account.
