The formal profiles of Jörg Haider and Ambrozy were not entirely dissimilar. Both had a law degree from the University of Vienna. They were roughly the same age and were in their prime at the time of their political duel. But Ambrozy never stood a chance. He lacked the necessary charisma and the charisma associated with it. Like so many in the SPÖ party apparatus, he was socialized and he could not break these chains.
