If vaccination against HPV initially concerned only young girls over 11 years of age, this has been extended to their male counterparts in January 2021. Yet, while almost half of girls under 15 are vaccinated, less than one in ten boys are.

The lack of knowledge of the general public and health professionals is the main obstacle. “For a vaccination to work, it must be offered systematically. However, it is not the case. Some families take the step and ask for the vaccine, but this remains rare.points out Professor Xavier Carcopino, head of the obstetrics gynecology department at the Nord hospital in Marseille and president of the French Society of Colposcopy and Cervicovaginal Pathology (SFCPCV).
