The National Program of Scholarships and Educational Credit () from the Ministry of Education (Minedu) explains in this note why it is important to repay this loan within the indicated period.

The educational credits of the They consist of a loan to be repaid within a specific term; unlike the Pronabec scholarships that subsidize the studies and do not imply any commitment to repay.

The credits are awarded through public competitions for higher education to begin, continue or complete, those who meet different conditions, such as having a high academic performance or living in a condition of vulnerability. The winners agree, by signing a document, to return the amount financed.

Like any financial loan, a compensatory interest rate is paid which, in this case, is very low as it is in charge of a State entity, such as the . Likewise, in some educational loans the payment term can reach 10 years, after completing the professional career.

An important fact is that the funds earned from the interest paid on educational loans are sent to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which allocates the money to the construction of schools, hospitals, financing of studies, among other opportunities in favor of the Peruvian population.

“It is important that the beneficiary pay their repayment fees on time, because this way they will not have default or coercive processes that could affect their credit history. Maintaining an impeccable record will allow financial companies to grant them their products such as credit cards, personal or mortgage loans”, says the director of the Evaluation and Granting Unit of the Educational Credit Management Office of Pronabec, Alejandro Zegarra Anchiluri.

It also explains that, if the beneficiaries fail to comply with their payment schedule, default interest will be imposed, with rates of up to 13%. Likewise, if you stop paying for two months, the credit contract is cancelled, it enters coercive collection and it is reported to the financial system; which will affect your credit history.

The reimbursement or payment is made through the physical and electronic platforms of Banco de Crédito del Perú, Interbank and Banco de la Nación. The platform has no commission cost and without having to approach a bank agency.

“The beneficiaries of educational loans can take advantage of the support that the Peruvian State gives them with due responsibility in paying their fees. Their credit history, in many cases, begins with this product, so they must be aware of the responsibility they are acquiring”, Zegarra points out.
