The much-anticipated “Frasier” revival has been a hit, but it is missing one key character. David Hyde Pierce, who played Dr. Niles Crane for 11 seasons, chose not to return for the Paramount+ reboot of the iconic sitcom. In a recent interview, Pierce revealed his reasons for not making a comeback, citing a desire to pursue other projects.

The Emmy winner, now 64, expressed that while he loved every moment of his time on “Frasier,” he wanted to explore other opportunities. Pierce explained that at the time talks for the reboot began, he was already committed to the “Julia” TV show and working on a musical. He felt that he didn’t want to be tied down to a show and miss out on other creative endeavors.

Pierce also acknowledged that “Frasier” had moved on to a new world, with new characters, and he felt that the show didn’t actually need him. Despite his absence, the revival has introduced new compelling characters and has been met with positive reception.

While fans may miss Dr. Niles Crane, the new series still includes familiar elements, such as his 19-year-old son, David, who attends Harvard University in the revival. Additionally, original “Frasier” alums, such as Bebe Neuwirth and Peri Gilpin, have made special cameos in the new series.

Despite Pierce’s decision, the revival has kept the essence of “Frasier” alive while introducing fresh storylines and characters. As the show continues to gain momentum, it seems that it is doing just fine without David Hyde Pierce’s iconic character.
