For the second time in less than a year, Rubén Oseguera González, ‘El Menchito’ changed lawyers. This happens less than a year before his trial in the United States, where he is accused of drug trafficking.
According to Milenio, on November 1, the Mexican’s request was accepted. Now lawyers Jan Edward Ronis and Anthony Colombo Jr. will defend him.
Oseguera González faces a trial for cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking, in addition to possession of firearms, an activity to which he has been linked since 2007. In addition, he is the son of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

In January 2012, the Mexican reached a plea agreement on charges of organized crime and money laundering, as well as murder and extortion.
On what other occasions has ‘El Menchito’ changed lawyers?
It was in April 2023 when it was notified that ‘El Mencho”s son requested a change of his lawyer, just one day before the hearing to change his guilty plea, which would take place on Wednesday, April 12.
Because of the move made, lawyers Daniel Onorato and Arturo Corso would be fired to allow the entry of Arturo Hernández, who notified the United States government that he wants to appear as a registered attorney in the case. Furthermore, this caused ‘Menchito’ to not plead guilty.
Because the change of lawyer for ‘Menchito’ was made one day before the hearing, the government launched a motion to investigate a possible conflict of interest, as it argues that “Mr. Hernández (the new lawyer) had “intention to file a notice to appear prior to the change of plea hearing on April 12.”
