How the house was built

Translated, the name Bottega Veneta means “Venetian Workshop”. It was founded in 1966 in Vicenza – fifty kilometers from Venice. He is now headquartered in Lugano (Switzerland) and offices in Milan and Vicenza. The latter city is also called “golden” due to the long history of trading in precious metals.
Michel Taddei and Renzo Zengyaro decided to enter the market with high-quality leather goods and developed the iconic intrecciato weave, the hallmark of Bottega Veneta. In the late 1970s, Taddea’s wife Laura Braggion took over the artistic direction of the brand. The 1970s and 1980s were a golden era in the history of the company. The things of the house were associated with the first persons: they were worn by Jacqueline Kennedy and the Empress of Iran Farah Pahlavi, Andy Warhol shot a short film for him.
But the 1990s and early 2000s were not very successful. The founders retired, the fashion industry was changing rapidly, and the house was losing ground. In 2001, Bottega Veneta became part of the Gucci Group (now Kering). The new owner hired Thomas Mayer as creative director. He was able to revive the company, presenting quality bags and shoes, and confirmed the status of Bottega Veneta as an international luxury brand, the brand’s revenue reached $ 1 billion.
