Perth: Before the World Cup, India have started training by flying to Australia while other teams are playing Twenty20 series. Soham Desai, the team’s strength and conditioning coach, explains why he decided to come to Perth for training.

Soham Desai says the camp in Perth for the next 8-10 days is to hone some specific skills needed to adapt to the conditions in Australia. The Indian team arrived in Australia on Thursday. India started training on Friday itself.

The next 8-10 days are crucial. Can’t thank the BCCI and the team management enough for spending so many days training. The focus these days is to improve physically and hone skills, says Soham Desai in a video shared by BCCI.

Perth was chosen for training to get more time on these pitches. Soham Desai also says that the aim is to change the practice of playing bilateral series in India.

After the IPL, India continued to play bilateral series. Team India has played the most number of Twenty20 matches this calendar year. India played 31 matches. The West Indies played 11 matches less than India, who have played the second highest number of Twenty20 matches during this period.
