DECRYPTION – For the economist Mathieu Plane, the difference between the inflation perceived by households and that estimated by the experts “is quite regular in history”.
Whether it rises, falls or stagnates, inflation remains closely scrutinized by the French. They keep a close eye month after month on the price curve, which they see rising with concern and falling with relief. Often, however, the official publications do not carry their adhesion, the figures appearing to them far from their lived. In August, therefore, although inflation rose again for the first time since April, it nevertheless remained on a generally downward slope since the start of the year, when it had reached more than 6 %. But when we question the French, their perception is far from being the same.
