On July 4, 2024, the Prosecutor’s Office carried out several raids in offices and homes in Guayaquil, for the so-called Implacable case, where alleged influence peddling is being investigated.
The Prosecutor’s Office announced that it is looking for Leonardo Toledolawyer for Mayra Salazar, prosecuted in the Metastasis case and a key player – as a protected witness – in the Purga case.
The Prosecutor’s Office reported on its X account that evidence was raised and that Juan Francisco Fierro, an external lawyer for Banco del Pacífico, was arrested after raiding his home in Samborondon.
The alleged leaked audio from Mayra Salazar’s lawyer
The raids come after an alleged two-minute audio recording between Leonardo Toledo, Mayra Salazar’s lawyer, and Juan Francisco Fierro, Banco del Pacífico’s external lawyer, on the Purga case, was leaked on July 1, 2024, causing all kinds of reactions among other lawyers and defendants in the case. One of the first to react was Pablo Muentes, a former assemblyman who is imprisoned in La Roca prison. In a statement, the politician said that “it has been proven to the point of exhaustion that everything said by Mayra Salazar, a protected witness of the Prosecutor’s Office, is absolutely false; lies and crude distortions intended to reduce his sentence.”
According to Muentes, the audio reveals that Toledo demanded a supposed remaining payment of $350,000 from Fierro, as they had agreed to half a million dollars in exchange for manipulating Salazar’s version.
Attorney Toledo is also the boyfriend of Carolina Jaume, an actress who was mentioned by Salazar in his early testimony.
On July 4, 2024, Jaume was intercepted by several media outlets in Guayaquil, who asked her about the whereabouts of her boyfriend and fiancé. Smiling and in response to the question about Toledo, the actress smiled and got into a car without answering. She was also asked if the wedding was still on, but she did not answer either.
