For several weeks now, not to mention months, the war in Ukraine has been waged as a war of attrition. Ukraine managed to recapture large areas, and Russia has long since lost its momentum. Neither Russia nor Ukraine manage to conquer territories from each other. So why is it that in the last few weeks there is almost no change in the controlled territories?

During months of bloody war, each of the countries had moments they could present: we managed to conquer territories.

But in the last few weeks the situation came to a certain standstill, and the war moved into a state of war of attrition, in which many are still killed – but without almost any military achievement.

Russia was the first to weaken, after suffering a severe blow from the Ukrainian army and large Western aid, which led the Russians to dig in the mud of the war with tired soldiers and without a clear strategy. Immediately after it came Ukraine, which is waiting for additional aid from the West and has not been able to achieve a breakthrough for some time.

What both sides of the barricade have in common: the frozen winter is coming and makes it even more difficult for the fighters to fight and maintain high morale.

So when will a breakthrough be achieved? The truth is, you never know, but in Ukraine they started a race against time to recruit more western weapons, when this week they announced in Britain the supply of Challenger 2 tanks, the so-called tanks that never lost a battle. In London, perhaps the obvious was said for Ukraine, this is an important moment to take advantage of, before Russia manages to recover and reach another round of recruitment.

And now, the million dollar question regarding the continuation of the war: who will be the first to achieve the breakthrough – Russia through further production of weapons and another round of recruitment – or extensive Western aid to Ukraine.
