New Delhi : Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said on Saturday that the world is witnessing more intense competition between the US and China in many areas. He said that India is ready to work with like-minded partners on specific agendas. India’s role in the ‘Quad’ group is an example of such an approach.

During a virtual address at the ‘FPCI Global Town Hall’, Jaishankar discussed major geopolitical developments and said that the world is witnessing more ‘fierce competition’ between the US and China in many areas. The ‘Quad’ comprising India, the US, Australia and Japan has emerged as a major alliance, which is focused on working towards ensuring a free, open and rule-based Indo-Pacific region in the backdrop of China’s growing dominance in the region.

Referring to the major developments in international relations over the last few decades, the External Affairs Minister said many major powers are now content to do nothing while new powers are more hesitant to step up.
