Ooty: Various reports are circulating about Nilgiris Minister Ramachandran being transferred from Forest Department to Tourism Department.

DMK won the 2006 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and formed the government. At that time, Ramachandran, who won the Kunnar constituency, was appointed as the Minister of Khadar Department. After that, he contested again on behalf of DMK in the 2021 assembly elections and won. Ramachandran was assigned the important department of Forestry.

As the forest department was assigned to the Nilgiri district, everyone expected that the forests of the Western Ghats, which have a large forest area, would get more importance for protection and environmental development.
Following this, the Chief Minister’s direct plan to increase the forest area by 33 percent across the state, with a 10-year target of planting 2.60 crore saplings, is in progress.

To implement this project, the forest department officials and the minister went all over the state and carried out planting work. In this case, his post has been changed and he has been given the post of State Tourism Minister.
‘The minister has not been effective in implementing the forest conservation programs of the state. Other political parties have alleged that the Forest Department post was taken away due to the delay in implementing the Chief Minister’s direct plan.

Minister’s explanation

When asked to Minister Ramachandran, he said, “Considering my age and health, I asked the Chief Minister and changed the department. Moreover, since the Nilgiris district is important for tourism, I will carry out the work of this department effectively,” he said.
