Nevertheless, for the World Health Organization (WHO), the pathogen is one of the three most dangerous virus groups from the animal world that should be constantly monitored. “We could have a virus variant in three years that is much less easy to contain – that’s a real risk,” says WHO monkeypox expert Rosamund Lewis.
