The women end the holidays on their kneecaps. In question, according to an Ifop survey, an unequal distribution of the charges, whether it is the preparation of the stay or the domestic tasks. Result: physical fatigue and stress are there even before the start of the school year.

Crossed at the Gare de Lyon, the Benstaali family returns from a trip to the Pacific. And between Loreline, the mother, and Jonathan, the father, do not look for who prepared the stay: hotel reservations, preparation of a “small program to try to optimize the trip as much as possible and try to do as many interesting things as possible…” Loreline is the “tour operator” of the family: “She is constantly thinking about everything that needs to be thought about, while I am at the last moment”, admits her husband, visibly overwhelmed.

“With all the friends or relations we have, doing at the last moment is the way men operate. When we arrive in front of the wall, we wonder how we are going to get around it.”

“So my job is to take care of the rest, to take care of the little ones, to prepare the kitchen, to do some shopping…”explains Jonathan. “We are very complementaryconcludes Loreline. It works very well.”

>> Gender inequalities: 85% of medical appointments made for children are booked by mothers, according to Doctolib

But when the spouse is not as helpful as Jonathan on the vacation spot, this mental burden becomes unbearable for some women. Camille Teste holds a feminist account on the Instagram social network. Back from vacation with friends in the South, she wanted to share her experience on the Internet. “Clearing, doing the dishes, cooking, buying garbage bags, why not take care of the children… It jumped out at me to see that women put a lot more energy into these holidays than men. men and had less room to rest, comments Camille Teste. I realized that this was a very shared observation among women.”

“Often, when I have conversations with my girlfriends, I tell myself that I still need at least two or three weeks of vacation to rest from the vacation we have just had”.

And indeed, according to a survey published on August 29 by Ifop and the Bons Plans Voyage New York site conducted with 2,000 people, 70% of respondents say they are tired when they return from vacation compared to 57% of men, “especially when their type of accommodation does not allow them – as may be the case in a hotel or a holiday club – to delegate the management of daily tasks (e.g. meals) to others. And in couples with stayed with children in a residence of their own, the proportion of men feeling more rested than their partner is even higher: 67% against barely 34% among women”. The observation is clear for Ifop: it is the unequal distribution of domestic tasks that explains the difference.

>> REPORT. “It’s saying I’m totally selfish”: despite the guilt, the “momcation”, holidays without children or spouse, begins to find an echo in France

But not easy to approach the subject, underlines Camille Teste. For her, it is up to men to take the lead. “Women already have a lot of the burden of organizing holidays. If in addition, it’s always up to them to carry the burden of having heavy conversations, in my opinion, it’s a kind of double violence that doesn’t is not necessarily very fair.

But the suitcases are packed (by the women) and long live the joys of going back to school: laundry to wash, looking for childcare… and school supplies to buy. Because before returning to work, children must be well equipped for the start of the school year. And who of mum or dad will go to buy school supplies? The answer comes without hesitation: “It’s mom !” Here again, according to Ifop, the majority of women stick to it and drag a “back to school stress” which prevents them from fully decompressing before returning to daily life.
