The integration of the fleeing Ukrainians is hardly solvable for many municipalities. Two visits to municipalities that could hardly be more different financially.

Outside the pipes are rusting, inside the plaster is peeling off the wall. Downstairs in the hall are modern workbenches, drills and milling machines, but rain is dripping through the roof. The vocational school in Pirmasens (BBS) trains around 1,600 students in industrial and wood technology, plastics production and mechatronics.

The students made a gutter under the roof that diverts the dripping water to the sink in the corner of the workshop. This is the only way they can work dry when it rains. Ivy eats its way into the hall from the outside. The equipment is modern because it is provided by local companies to train the students. However, the 1960s building is in need of renovation and Pirmasens lacks the money to invest.
